Frequently Asked Questions

  • A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse who has advanced education and provides personalized, quality health care to patients. Nurse practitioners provide a full range of health care services to individuals, families and communities in a variety of settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and in various communities. Nurse practitioners work alongside physicians, nurses and other health care professionals such as mental health professionals, and pharmacists to help improve and maintain patients’ health and wellbeing.

  • NP's assess, diagnose, treat and monitor a wide range of health problems using an evidence based approach to their practice. For example, they can diagnose common pediatric conditions like strep throat, ear infections and rashes. They can also provide treatment (including prescribing medications) to address acute illnesses or to manage chronic conditions. They consult and collaborate with physicians and other health care professionals to meet the needs of their patients. They also help patients to navigate through the health care system.
